ในช่วงห้าปีหลังที่ผ่านมา เราพบว่าในช่วง กรกฎาคม - พฤศจิกายน ของทุกปี จะเป็นช่วงที่หลายๆ พื้นที่ในประเทศไทยจะต้องเกิดอุทกภัยอยู่เสมอ และทุกๆ ปีนั้น เราก็จะพบกับเหตุการณ์ที่เป็นปัจจัยให้เกิดความวุ่นวายทั้งในการจัดการตัวเองของผู้ประสบภัยและการให้ความช่วยเหลือแก่ผู้ประสบภัย ซึ่งหนึ่งในปัจจัยที่ทำให้เกิดความวุ่นวายเหล่านั้นคือความสับสนของข้อมูลที่ส่งให้ผู้รับสาร

โอเพ่นดรีมมีความเชื่อว่า ข้อมูล/ข่าวสาร ควรจะถูกส่งจากแหล่งกำเนิดไปยังผู้รับสารอย่างไม่ถูกบิดเบือน โดยเฉพาะข้อมูลสาธารณะที่จะช่วยเสริมศักยภาพให้ผู้รับสามารถจัดการตัวเอง/ครอบครัว/ชุมชน ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและไม่วุ่นวาย นั่นคือหนึ่งในเหตุผลที่เราทดลองหลายๆ อย่างกับข้อมูลเปิดสาธารณะในประเทศไทย ข้อมูลที่ไม่ถูกบิดเบือนจากต้นทางหรือตัวกลาง จะช่วยเสริมศักยภาพการทำงานอย่างมีนัยยะสำคัญ

We just finished our, not so good, fuzzy and messy, barcamp phnom penh presention about SMS usability. With minimum efford of slide preparation, I followed the golden rule of barcamp, prepare your presentation on site.

I'm not sure that the imagicharacters are invented by someone yet, Orange or True Move?

The interesting thing is we could adopt this kind "imaginative" method would be helpful for non-english languages. For example, Khmer people might not familiar with a shape of characters, but phonetics. We might be able to represent each key pad with tones.

Our experience while implementing GeoChat in Mukdahan, we found that 90% of users are not familiar with Thai input and that turns out to a low quality data. By the way, this is still a huge challenge. QWERTY keyboard is more popular than DVORAK keyboard, which is invented to improve QWERTY user hands' workload, even DVORAK is better.

We've an interesting discussion with our technology partner, InSTEDD, about prototyping this "imaginative" input method, and it will be prototyped soon!

On 12nd - 13rd March, 2009. We and, our partners, ChangeFusion and InSTEDD went to Mukdahan for introducing GeoChat, the SMS gateway for rapid reports and responses, to MBDS, Meakhong Basin Disease Surveillance, provincial network. We have been facilitated the SMS local gateway and other technical support to Mukdahan network and the network will be expended to Savannakhet, Laos PDR in future.

The workshop outcome with small pilot group of Mukdahan's Surveillance Rapid Response Team (SRRT) to report disease through SMS who will be monitored disease such as Avian Influenza, cholera, chicken pox, measles, Hand Foot Mount etc.
